West District Senior Age Group Short Course Championships
The older age group of the Cumbernauld Swimming Club (ages 14 and above) made the short journey to the Tollcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow this past weekend to prove their mettle against the rest of the West at the West District Senior Age Group Short Course Swimming Championships.
Michael Flynn led the medal charge by striking Gold in the Age 16 and above 1500 metre Freestyle with a fantastic personal best swim. Michael also qualified for finals in both the 100 metre Backstroke and the 100 metre Butterfly.
17 year old Euan McDonald also earned a place in the 100 metre Backstroke final.
In the Boys Age 15 category, Cameron Creaney again reached a podium, grabbling Silver in the 200 metre Butterfly. Cameron also reached finals in the 200 metre Individual Medley, the 100 metre Breaststroke and 100 metre Butterfly events, while just missing a medal in the 400 metre Individual Medley with a 4th place finish. Agemate Cameron Neilson joined him by earning a place in the 200 metre Individual Medley final.
14 year old Seth Knox powered his way to a place in the 100 metre Butterly final, while Beth Wilson also earned a final slot in the Girls 100 metre Backstroke final with a personal best performance.
Despite the lack of podium places there were a multitude of personal best times recorded by our local swimmers as they continue to prepare for the National Short Course Swimming Championships in Edinburgh next month.
