Bellshill Summer Splash Meet Report.
http://coachstef.com/uptimebot The Cumbernauld Swimming Club team hit the road this past weekend, making the short journey to Bellshill to compete in the Bellshill Sharks Annual Summer Splash Meet. Billed as the last meet of the competitive season before the summer break, this meet gives swimmers an opportunity to compete in events outwith the national summer invitational meet programme. Our young swimmers were determined to put their best fin forward before the break, and they did just that, being competitive across the entire span of events throughout the weekend.
Kelsey Corley and Hazel Lees dominated the Girls Age 16 and above category. Kelsey struck Gold in the 400 metre Freestyle, 200 metre Breaststroke and 50 metre Butterfly along with a Silver in the 200 metre Individual Medley, while Hazel earned Silver in the 200 metre Backcrawl, 50 metre Breaststroke and 50 metre Freestyle as well as a Bronze in the 400 metre Individual Medley.
12 year old Madison Gallacher was up to the task, grabbing Silver medals in the 400 metre Individual Medley, 400 meter Freestyle and 50 metre Butterfly, while 14 year old Beth Wilson powered her way to Bronze in the 200 metre Butterfly.
The boys also asserted their authority in the Age 16 and above category. Sam Glen led the charge with Gold in the 50 and 100 metre Butterfly as well as the 50 metre Breaststroke. Jonathan Cameron struck Gold in the 100 metre Backcrawl as well as Bronze medals in both the 50 and 100 metre Freestyle. Euan McDonald earned himself 3 Silver medals in the 200 metre Individual Medley and the 200 and 400 metre Freestyle events. Jake Lindsay captured a Bronze in th 50 metre Freestyle.
Cameron Creaney struck Gold in both the 400 metre Individual Medley and the 50 metre Backcrawl while competing in the Boys 14-15 Age group.
The 12-13 year old Boys had 3 medal recipients, with Luke Johnson winning Gold in the 100 metre Freestyle while team mates Jamie Glen and Matthew McEwan each won a Silver, Jamie in the 400 metre Freestyle and Matthew in the 100 metre Backcrawl.
The Boys 9-11 age group was led by Andrew Brackenridge with a Gold in the 200 metre Butterfly along with Bronze in the 400 metre Freestyle, and Alfie Smith, who struck for Silver in the 50 and 100 metre Backcrawl as well as the 50 metre Butterfly, and also earned a Bronze in the 50 metre Freestyle.
As usual there were many personal bests and strong swims throughout the weekend by the majority of our swimmers who never lost their competitive edge throughout a long season. Well done swimmers and enjoy the summer holidays!!!!
